Both the photography and printing could change the color tone enough to create confusion. Still i feel the same as Andy that it is most likely a 67 and i would bet anything it is not an original finish 63

For comparison, my late 1964 RM1999.
If the body is original, the color of 1963 is lighter than my 1964 anyway.

Just as a matter of interest heres a CS and an RM together.
Note that theres a gap between the pickguard and the HS surround on a lot of these.
The FG looks about right but it could well have later re-issue HS and pickguard.
Whatever, its a fine looking bass for sure.

Those basses look good together, Pete. Shapes are nearly spot-on....

I've seen the wood-gap between the 'guard and the surround as well....

You know, that shading is very similar to Pete's DA24 bass.

I am beginning to think it could possibly be a 63 4000 with added an added p/up...

Thats what I was thinking too.
There might be a number of early 4000 basses with added pickups.
If I remember rightly the bodies are often routed for two pickups.

+1

I love these discussions about RM 1999 basses. Really gives some inciting info about a super-rare bass. If only the RM guitar discussions were this juicy! :)
