Gonna seem like a weird question :)

Post by Defiled »

Well I ordered my 4003 Friday (getting it monday :D) and umm i was just thinking, this is my first Neck-thru bass...

Well basically, my fingerstyle is basically right near the fingerboard if not on the fingerboard (ala Geezer Butler, Scott Reeder etc) Anyway, my current base is bolt on so i thought maybe it would be different, i put my thumb where the fingerboard meets the body (it slightly higher, fits my thumb nice :)) hopefully you understand what im saying. Does the rick or even any Neck-Thru bass have this?

Thanks guys :)

Welcome Jordan. Sounds like you're describing profile rather than neck type. The Rick does have a little bit of space for your thumb. If you play precisely enough, the edge of the pickguard may work too.

Welcome, Jordan! :D

I pluck my Ricks quite often up on the fingerboard going as high as the 12th fret so no problems with this technique.

Yeah . The neck makes a nice thumb rest . Deep tone up there .
It's too early in the morning to talk about our relationship !

At times I will also play right near the fingerboard. If I'm playing fretless, I usually will play near the fingerboard. I've had no problems with the technique on my Rick basses.

The end of the neck is a good thumb rest, IMO.

One cool thing about the 4001/4003 shape is that the body meets the neck at the 20th fret on the bass side, so it's a perfect place to put your thumb.

Well she came today :D:D

Man oh man im shocked...I did'nt think it would be this good!! I should of never even doubted her!!

I've never heard such a tone in my life! I played it unplugged for about 10 mins just to get the general feel and was impressed...then i plugged it in and wow!! I've never played a bass that had that high treble sound but with still a nice amount of low end. Amazing bass worth every penny!

Im afraid the only picture i have is with my ****** phone D:

Also, how can i find out what year it is exactly, it has rick-o-sound etc so i guess 06+ but i want to know exactly :) Where is the serial number?

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your Rickenbacker, Jordan. It's a good feeling, isn't it? :D

The serial numbr is located on the jackplate. You can determine the manufacture date via the RIC decoder:-
