Yep.
Not necessarily everything, but the cynicism of their marketing gurus merits taking down, whenever possible.

I find the quote to be so laughable as to bring tears to my eyes, but they aren't happy tears--they're the tears of someone who sees the marketing minds who are so cynical and arrogant that they think they can sell anything to anyone if they have the right name behind it, and the dummies who prove them almost unfailingly right in their arrogant cynicism.

Guess it's not arrogant if they sell the things, though I do wonder what's going to happen 30 years from now when the vintage/artist mania dies off...

Blackie replicas for $500, anyone?

Lots of profit potential here, I'm thinking.

Maybe someday a Strat, going Gibson's Robot Geetar one better, that's factory-equipped with Auto-Ability®, hey?
Is that one of the things you're working on then Paul? :)
I am working a system to retrofit gee-tars called Insta-Talent®

Maybe someday Fender will recreate a model of their's that a rockstar like Pete Townshend had smashed, in an exact replica of what it looked like after he smashed it. I wonder what they would sell it for?

Whatever some rich numb-nut was prepared to pay, providing that exceeded $10,000. It would entail the ultimate in "relicing"!

He's a Fender endorsee, I'm sure they could get him to smash up a "limited edition" run

Has Townshend ever officially endorsed Fender? I think he uses Clapton Strats.

I said they were doing that. Dave's guitar has that beat though. Filled hole from a Kahler bridge.

Here's a shot of the additional switch with the filled in hole.

Here's your buckle wear.

Anyway, if anyone deserves a signature guitar (over people that get one for the hell of it because that's what they're playing at the time) it's David.

If any signature Fender's should be made fun of it's John Mayer's (ooooh, a racing stripe!) and Geddy Lee's. Hell, Ged got his bass in a pawn shop. That's pretty stock. He replaced the bridge. That's it. The neck's aren't all that different eiter. They still make basses with black blocks anyway.

Do you guys have to make fun of everything Fender does now?
It's an ugly, big headstock, Strat anyway, unless they're going to build it with the custom shop `57 reissue neck he has on it now. If they really wanted to make a cool DG Srat, they should have asked him what features he'd like in his ultimate dream Strat, as they have with some other players. I hope they aren't going to duplicate the filled in hole from the Kahler. That would be really lame.

A luthier I know recently made Dave Gilmour at least one custom Strat style guitar: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... ID=1978718

WRT the Geddy Lee J Bass, it's reasonably priced, has the signature modestly placed on the back side of the headstock in a rather small script, and is the only Fender J bass available with a black finish, maple neck, and black block inlays-I just checked. It also has the vintage J bass pickups and a slimmed down neck. It's a great bass for the price, which is probably why GL was happy to put his name on it. The only thing it doesn't have are the bridge and p/u covers, which I really don't miss on that bass. I bought the bass because I liked the black finish contasted with the bound maple neck and black block inlays-I wasn't so concerned with the fact that it was a Geddy Lee bass. I was glad that the signature was on the back, and rather small at that.

Have to say that I really hate strats.

There is only Jimi who I can bear to watch and listen playing one. And he used to set them on fire! If he was still around today he'd probably be using semtex on the things by now. :)

They look bland, they sound bland, and on the whole they are played by bland people who make bland music for people who have bland lives.

Yeah, I know I went a little strong there, but they are ****, don't you think? (thinks.....this'll get the thread rocking  )

For some strange reason I typed SEMTEX into google to see what came up. I've probably got the FBI going through my medical records as we speak...... :o

I like the 50s style Strats in custom colors-I don't find those bland at all. It was quite a revolutionary guitar when introduced. The blandness comes from all of the watering down the model has gone through over the years, the sheer overwhelming number of Strats produced, the variety of models, and all of the copies! In addition to this, we're all RICKENBACKER owners; our instruments are the most unique production guitars and basses around, both in shape, sound, and numbers produced! Any other production guitar is going to look somewhat ordinary next to a RICK. :D

Everything in moderation...

Since I've started playing leads more and getting away from my Beatles/60s influences and more into jazz and blues, I find I appreciate the Strat a whole lot more. I have a greater appreciation now for the various kinds of guitars and their unique voicings and shapes, where I used to be a Rickenbacker elitist of sorts.

These days, the Ricks mainly only see rhythm work...my LP and Strat run rings around them for soloing, YMMV of course.
