Monty Mods?

Post by montezuma »

Hi everyone. Here is my current Rickenbacker pride and joy. As you can see I changed the tailpiece for a more vintage vibe. Now I'm considering adding gold pickguards and truss rod. What do you think? Am I nuts? Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know if you're nuts or not, but I agree with what Paul said. It's your guitar, fix it up any way you want :D

Gold guards and nameplate look very nice with the Montezuma Brown finish in my view.

It is a bit of a trade off, however, in that the white guards and nameplate accent the fretmarkers better.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Good point Peter, hadn't thought of that. Does anyone have a photos of another monty (or fireglo) with gold guards? I'd probably get the oven knobs too...

Thought about going the gold route on my 1997 until I realized you can't just back-paint a TRC without it being one with raised lettering. In March, 08, I wrote Tony D. at Pickguardian about this and here is what he said:

"Unfortunately, we cannot make truss rod covers, even blank ones, due to copyright restrictions. If you had a raised-letter TRC, we could have painted it Gold and gone over the raised portion in Black for $15. Since yours is a vintage style, there's not much we can do."

Doug, I can't tell what type of lettering you have there but if it's back-painted (vintage), I'll be interested in how you get past this obstacle without paying through the nose.

I have the modern raised lettering on my trc. I guess I'll have to decide if I want the vintage style or the modern trc. Of course finding either one won't be easy. :?
