Bongo Fury!!

Post by atomic_punk »

So....one day my girlfriend and I are getting some picks at Guitar Center, and I see this Ernie Ball Music Man Bongo 5-string bass. It's on sale. I lust after it for a moment, telling her that is the best looking Bongo I have ever seen. The moment grows longer...looking at it....wanting it...but I can't afford it at the moment. So we walk away.
I go back to the Guitar Center 3 days later, and it's gone. I call her and disappointedly tell her that it sold..this is Tuesday.

Saturday I am getting ready to go to my gig, and I walk into my bedroom, and there is this Bongo lying on my bed.
SHE WAS THE ONE THAT BOUGHT IT!

Needless to say, I was blown away.
It's beautiful....and it sounds AWESOME. 4 BAND EQ. 2 active humbuckers. More tones than I can even imagine.

Congrats and enjoy it, Steve! Post a pic of you playing it when you use it at a gig.
Sounds like you have a really cool girlfriend.

Nice bass. The "different" design has really grown on me lately.

Wow Steve, that is so cool. She is such a thoughtful person! Take good care of her (both her and the Bongo)! And congrats.

She is very cool, over the 100 gigs we did this year, she missed 3. Not a bad ratio. :)
Here are some pics of the Bongo in action, and the girl who gave it to me!
Trying out some D'Addario Chromes on it right now....will report once I decide if I like them or not.
It'll be onstage at Michigan International Speedway next weekend!!

Congratulations on the new bass & cool girlfriend. I still think Bongos look like toilet seats though.

I've had a couple nice Musicman basses. I noticed your Bongo has the "HH" config. I've been checking out the "HS" stingrays. Are there any real advantages to the "HH"?

There is a blend knob that lets you select how much of each pickup you want. It's amazing and yet the slightest change in the blend can really change the tone. I like the HH because I don't really like the sound of the single coil in there. It's also dead quiet. I sometimes have to check to make sure I turned the volume back up between songs.
