That would be nice, but due to human nature, it's not really going to happen!
Informed debate, without directly resorting to being personal, should be the order of the day, and this place, with Peter's careful eye, does a far better job than most.

I love the Fender J and P, but am no fan of their sunburst. The 60's custom colours are simply the s**t though...
The ashtrays, like horseshoes, are a pain. Take 'em off!

Oh BTW, the ashtrays are back on my white '71 P bass after being off for 25 years.... and the treble side thumb rest is also back on. It looks and plays great, if just a little battered.

I just LOVE to see wood grain and I like the frills, but that is a very sweet looking bass.

Different strokes for different folks. I guess that's why they put screws on these parts! LoL!

I LOVE my HS's, some guys here hate them (again, I'm always looking to adopt unwanted HS').
I like the chrome bridge cover, however, I'd like it even more if it were made like the HS material, nice and solid.
LOVE the chrome on the toasters, hell I just LOVE CHROME!

As someone has mentioned, every bass or guitar has some kind of drawback.

It's a very, very early 64, with 63 pots. It's been refinished in what looks like Inca Silver, not Olly White, which it appears here. At some time soon, it's probably going to be shell pink, or, possibly surf green/daphne blue.

Apart from that, it's all there, and stock, including the covers and the OHSC.

I hope we're talking about pickup covers here, cos I have to comment about them...

My bass playing friend plays slap bass, and he never plays with a pick. Therefore, he hates pickup covers. I told him about the 4001V63/C64, and told him that IS his bass, but he wouldn't like the covers. He said, "You can always remove them". I said "From a standard Ric, yes. From a vintage reissue Ric, no, it looks too weird."

I used to take the pickup covers off my basses. Lately I've been putting them back on. Especially now that I'm finally getting into using a pick more, I like the cover to be there.

That's kind of backwards for slap playing, isn't it? I'm not into it myself, but I have studied (and still teach) the technique. Since the thumb is supposed to graze the edge of the fretboard, the pickup/bridge covers wouldn't come into play. Check out Marcus Miller's '70's Jazz - pickup cover still on. I think he actually rests on it.

I saw Marcus last Thursday; he makes slap look effortless, and he has the pickup cover on his basses.
