Coward of the Conscience

This is the first track from my band's most recent album. Please have a listen and let me know what you think. Be honest--I can take it.

A little bit of information first: The arpeggios in the right speaker and the solo were done on my 2004 330/6 MG. We've all heard the old bromide that Ricks are only good for rhythm, but in my case, I use the Rick for lead (though arpeggiated runs in the Peter Buck or Johnny Marr tradition). The rhythm track was done using a Fender Jag.

Cool, Mark, I listened to the whole song (means I liked it)

The intro didn't really grab me but once you got rolling I was hooked. Just seemed more together by the end, but it could be just me... Nice Jangle Pop song.

The recording is pretty clean. Couldn't you muddy it up a bit for that real 60's vinyl sound?

Sorry, I've been listening to All Things Must Pass. Even the remaster can't fix Phil Spector's production. Great wall 'o' sound but, uh, can I have some vocals, pretty please? Nothing personal, Phillip; put the safety back on.

Thanks for listening and commenting frankly, Kira. Yeah, the opening is probably a little too subtle, and not quite hooky enough. But you're right, it picks up steam once the first chorus comes in. We probably should have faded the track out, but we were taken with our live arrangement (with the instrumental build-up at the end) because people seem to like it. But what works live doesn't always work on record, and vice versa.

It's not perfect, but it has the first guitar parts I ever wrote on my first Rick. So I'm kinda sentimental about it

As a child of the sixties I appreciate the pop-folk references, and I can hear some new wave sensibility in there too. Very engaging, and no complaints about the ending. Fade-outs are a bit old hat, even for me.
Keep on going with it. You're in a good direction.
