Amp Opinions ?

Post by brian »

What are your opinions on a good bass amp for strictly home use ? I used to have a Peavey Minx 110, but sold it and my 4003 a while ago. Having recently sold some guitars, (non Rics), I have just bought another bass and now have to get a new amp.

Isn't that your LIVE rig? He is talking home use...just stay away from SWR LA series...as someone here said, "Lousy Amp". Maybe the GK 210 combo? Its a sweet one!

I have a Vox T-25 that sounds great here at home. They have one flaw, a buzz in one corner when certain notes are struck. I think this can be fixed. I don't really notice it on mine. The sound you get out of these things will blow away a lot of amps in the 25 watt area. Unfortunately, Vox just stopped making them, so they are getting hard to find. Some local music stores may have one or two still sitting around though. They really make a RIC sound great.
Is everybody ready?

How much do you have to spend and what type of sound are you after?

I too have a B50R, but use my headphones, mixer, and Bass Podxt for practicing. For those with a B50R, I was wondering how you set the tone controls on it to get the sound you like. (I use 40-90 Fodera rounds on my 2002 4003 with toaster)

brian,

ampeg b 100 r. great for the house and enough power if you jam with a few friends.

fender bassman 100 good too but i have no experience playin out with it.

I just checked out the fender rumble the other day.
the 100 watt is great! not a lot of buttons to mess with and priced at 299 you cant beat it.

i am thinking about getting one.

The B50R has got a 12" driver, not the 15" you have, and no boost button. When I practiced thru mine, I kinda thought the B50R (with all tones set on 5) was too mid heavy for a Ric, and more suited for less hot pups. I'll have to try it again soon and see if my tastes and opinion have changed.

oh, i didnt know it was a smaller speaker.

i love the fat bottom and treble punch i get at those settings.

you bring up a good point about the ricks pick ups.
i recently got a cheap P bass copy as a back up when i dont want to take the "baby" out in bad weather.....i plugged in and it is dramatically lower in volume than the ric. i am having a set of seymours put in and it should increase the output but man the ricks pickups are loud!
