It is a cam lock that clamps the saddles together.clearblue wrote:What is the screw on the side of the Schaller bridge for? A tremolo arm?

You pick this one off of Pick of the Rics?clearblue wrote:Thanksken_j wrote:It is a cam lock that clamps the saddles together.clearblue wrote:What is the screw on the side of the Schaller bridge for? As said, you will love it! I love my 650, and would never part with her.
Re: 650c Bridges changed?
JDog: I'm afraid it looks like the 380L PZ bridge will never return. It was actually discontinued (if I remember rightly) by ABM prior to the death of Mr. Mueller. I believe this was a factor in RIC's decision to cease production of the 380L (in addition to slow sales). I don't know if anyone, including Schaller, manufactures anything comparable. I doubt it. It's a shame, because the 380L is a lovely player. Because it didn't have the vintage trappings, a lot of people clearly gave it a pass. I don't think the average RIC enthusiast really knew what they were missing.

Re: 650c Bridges changed?
Actually I looked into an ABM bridge with Piezo saddles a while back and noticed that Schaller made a similar bridge with Piezo.

Not sure if this is still available, but looks like Schaller has the design in hand.

Re: 650c Bridges changed?
The Mid Blue will be my second 650c. I have a 2004 Turquoise. The unbound body shape appeals to me.
Re: 650c Bridges changed?
ABM didn't produce the piezo bridge; we modified the ABM bridge here.
Re: 650c Bridges changed?
oooOOOoooo!!!! Interesting.
Re: 650c Bridges changed?
Wow. I had absolutely no idea. No wonder I can't find that part anywhere ...
Re: 650c Bridges changed?
Update: (in case your interested
) I am getting a jetglo instead which has the old style bridge. I find it looks better aesthetically.
Re: 650c Bridges changed?
I think this is good news and wish that my Ric 650 was fitted with a Schaller model. I have trouble with my A and D strings breaking and a guitar maker over here in Oz uses the Schaller bridges on his guitars...anyway, after talking to him, and if you look at the ABM ones, the strings on the Schaller bridges run through straight, the ones on the ABM come in on angle, which seems to explain my frequent string breakage.
I posed this question over on the Ric forums last year and got shot down in flames suggesting it was a poor design (I find some of the members over their to be a bit ignorant - I know there are a lot on these forums, but I'm just saying...) and I am surprised that Mr Hall made the comments he did in this thread as the one over at Ric suggested something a lot different, to quote:
"We used to use the Schaller bridge but upgraded it to these ABM produced ones and solved a raft of problems.
I still have a stack of NOS Schaller bridges sitting in obsolete inventory. Maybe I'll put these up on eBay someday."

I guess if the ABM ones are no longer available Ric doesn't have much choice...
