Oddly enough, a few of these have recently shown up in a couple Craigslist postings.

You can see them in the video "James Brown at Boston Garden". The entire band was using them as well as Vox drums for the drummer .

Upon closer inspection it may be an AC50 tallbox on a Series 90 cab.


The only other 3x10" I've seen (like the first amp mentioned here) was at Plexi Palace. They can't sound that good, can they?

I think you're right; that looks a lot more like an AC50 head than it does a Series 90 preamp head.

Downey Music Center, in Downey, CA used to have quite the extensive Thomas Vox collection back in the 80s. I think there was even one of those weird 3x10 SS amps in the pile, though they had a Series 90 head, but no cabinet-I found this out when I went to plug the preamp head-strange socket that didn't fit any of the cabinets in the room. The original owner, Nate Capalbo, probably took the collection with him when he sold the business, or sold it off when it became worth a bit more. It was quite impressive at the time.

Downey Music, wow, that takes me back. The other Guitar player in my band got his AC30 and original Tonebender(for next to nothing) there in like 83 or 84. They used to have that Mosrite hollowbody in there for ages. Cool store, well at least then, don't know anything about it now, or if it's still there.

Always a trip to Naugles after that , didn't Del Taco buy them out?

Ooh, Naugles...damn, now I want a milkshake. I think DT did buy them out.

Downey Music really went downhill after the Capalbos sold the business, but the current owners moved the store to a new location and have restored Downey Music to its former glory.
