Oven knobs on white pickguards?

Post by placebo62 »

Hi guys,

I dont think I've ever seen this, just curious if anyone has tried it, does it work? Like on a 620 or 360v64?

I ran the oven knobs for a while after seeing them on a prototype with white guards in the Rittor book. Looked pretty cool, IMHO.

Oh nice, thanks Dan. What model is that? 360/12 WB VP? or 360/12v64 with R tailpeice?

That's the '65 330 that was double bound and re-necked with CP inlays by Dale Fortune. I liked the oven knobs, but found them a little clumsy to use in a live situation, so I eventually sold them on eBay after finding a vintage silver-topped set.

HERE is my Flickr photo set dedicated to the '65.

The knobs are just that, knobs, so there are no problems with it "working," at least functionally. Aesthetically, however, I would say, no it doesn't! :)

I just bought a set of oven knobs from Pick of the Rics. I planned to use em on the charr broiled 360, but I may put em on the 330 that has a B5 on it, ala John Lennon. I am curios about the 330 inlays as I just bought a 330 12. It was a good deal and it's a good guitar, but I have never been a fan of the 24 frets, though they are surprisingly useable as I discovered last night. How does having the inlays redone affect the price of the instrument?

I saved that page to my Internet Explorer "Favorites" when it was first posted! :D It's a big part of the reason why I sent my 330/6 to receive similar conversion treatment, though I went even further by supplying a ROS jackplate and wiring circuit. It will be a 24 fret CB 365 WB with FWI, vintage headstock (bound), toasters, et cetera in JG when it's done. Eventually I'm going to have another like conversion done in Blue Boy. :D

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.
