12k toaster sound sample

Post by donnellbw »

For those who are curious about the characteristics of the out of production 12k
pick ups. The video is "reversed"- I am right handed. Nothing fancy on a "94 360 12 RIC.

Thanks for doing that, Donnell. I had heard about these pups, but not heard them. I wouldn't be unhappy about the sound of these, but I think I'll look for the old toasters when I buy my 370-12.

Miguel,

Reading posts on the RIC website I think that the Tom Petty 660 12 models made in the 90s had the "hotter" 12k toasters
on them since that was what the factory had in stock at the time. I understand that at some point in 2000+ the newer 660 12s came from the factory with the newer 7.5 scatterwound pick ups. Maybe some one can verify this more accurately?

Thanks for sharing. Have to admit, though, that Crate sounded a skosh on the harsh side. Or maybe it was the mic in the camcorder (?) that was lacking something? Regards.....Goofyfoot
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.
