I agree with Joey 100%, even though he is a Royal Rickensnob!

If Ricks don't work for you, fine, play what you want, just don't imply that they are substandard and overpriced.

This forum is very tolerant of other brands, and has places to post pictures of them and get feedback. Posting offensive and inflammitory statements in the bass section really isn't very productive. BTW, more than "Mexicans" make instruments at Fender, I know, I was there four 4 days a few years back in dealer seminars. I first hand witnessed a diverse multitude of folks at all levels of employment there.

I found one response very angry and accusatory, and find it a shame that this person felt the need to attack and generalize the people who post here, and am sorry he feels that way. I personally don't think anyone believes John Hall is going to deliver a guitar personally to them if they kiss his butt. People generally respect who he is and what he does, some more than others, and like to voice their appreciation of the family business and its practices.

Just my humble opinion and 2 cents

You may have wanted to post this thread in 'The Others" or "Forum 51", which cater for non-Rick content!
Evan, your reply should have ended this thread. Graeme was simply in the wrong forum and you politely told him so. I'm a snob too but I like to watch Quest for Tone and the Others. That's where it says we talk about other brands. No need for the brougha, folks. Peace! :D

It's about the MUSIC! Am I a Rickensnob? Yes, from a collector standpoint. But what have I played 70 percent of the time for the past year and a half? A Les Paul or a Strat. Yeah, it's probably just the "in love" phase since they're both pretty new...so I am keeping the Ricks!

We've now had this discussion over several threads. As I see it, both sides need to compromise here...Ricks are great, but they are NOT the perfect, end-all instrument brand for everyone on Earth. Conversely, other brands can make amazing stuff, but please don't bash Rickenbackers on the Rickenbacker forum just to get under people's skin.

I don't think the original poster wanted the thread to blow up. I frankly don't care where he posted either. My advice? If you regretted selling your Rickenbacker 30 years ago, you'll regret that c64S when it's gone, too.

Woha Joey you ricksnob, LOL i wasent attacking you, if you read my thread you would have seen that I said there were alot of really cool people here whom I respect and look forward to meeting, (you would be one of them, also im not a fender lover, nor am I a ric lover im a bass lover, and as far as nobody ever puts down other basses or companpies, i say B S. its all over both rick forums by some people, yes some not all, Yeah i am a rick hater I hate them so much I own 5 rics. silly me, i even plan on getting maybe 1 or two more. who knows as far as the fender forum first off its very slowsky, I dont bash other guitars on that forum, nor have I ever seen anyone really down any other If someone did talk trash about rick I give the same kind of response there as I do here, well if all of you thought that was directed toward you, shame on you you should know better,

Ange, I was not attacking you either, I'm being honest. If I can't be honest with you, we are not really friends.

The post that really got my things twisted was the one with the uncalled for, "ignoramus" remark that was a few posts before yours.

I don't have anything against Fenders, but I don't come to this particular forum to read about them, nor I guess do most of us. A lively comparison of products would be great reading somewhere else. However, it shouldn't upset anyone to find this thread here; it's just out of place. This blowout could have been avoided if we had just deferred to the rules. Nobody likes rules (me 'specially  ) but this is why they make them. :D

I personally did not see anything wrong with this thread and where it was. Come on folks, RRF is such a great place and tight knit that I would hope anything posted by one of us could be read and accepted for what was the poster's feelings. Attacking him because he got a new bass he is enamored with that is not a Rick bass is just cold. I personally find it interesting that out community is so diverse and into many other things than just Rickenbacker instruments.

And I really love my $110 SX (Essex) Jazz Bass made in China.

Personally I think everybody needs a P bass a J bass and a Ric in there stable. tone is subjective. The Fender guys have a lot of respect for ric owners,
I know this because im one of them (fenbass is short for Fender bass player) That said ,my Rick is my crown jewel of my basses I will be burried with it
but my jazz sees a little more action than my Ric but just a little. I will never put down a Ric or fender person or any one else for there choice in gear.
the way I see it ,Fender is the bass standard, Ric on the other hand has THAT SOUND,COOL LOOKS garnteed made in USA and THE ahhhhh factor, plus early Geddy my insporation for playing bass. ..........fenbass

Just an add-on to my previous post...

After a long stretch as a 'case queen,' my 330 saw some action on 'American Girl' and some Beatles tunes at my band's gig tonight (played a Strat and Les Paul R.I. all night)...I was absolutely blown away! My hands just fell right back into place and that glassy, shimmery chime was still there.

Don't write off those Ricks!
