By "60s wiring" do y'all mean the inclusion of the old school caps, including the .0047, which was omitted on later models, such as those in the 80s? Is there any other difference between that and "80s wiring"?

You guys are way more hardcore than I am; I just think the guitars look cool and try to get the sound I like out of them, mostly overdriven, often mixed with effects...

Anyway, thanks for sharing your mystery guitar JB; the only thing I could figure out was that the neck heel seemed incorrect for that guitar.

I'm not up on it all that much either, Paul, but there were certainly different types of capacitors - and not just the .0047 - that were being used at various different times. Try opening up your newest Rick and comparing it to the wiring from one of your older ones.

Whatever mojo the older wiring has, it's still essentially the same circuit, yes? The tone, volume, and blend knob controls all do the same thing, correct? I know that my `84 does not have the .0047 cap, but the guitar is bright enough for me as it is anyway. I even installed an OVERWOUND 15K toaster coil in the bridge position. I still have the 12 K coil though.

Pot values on 60's guitars can be all over the place, but I think the 500k tone pots and 250k volume pots are the best sound and is what most people expect to hear ringing out of a Rickenbacker 12 string. You can find good used blue molded .047 caps on eBay (search Fender amp caps) just make sure you get the ones with the longest leads. Still no idea what brand the little teal green .0047 caps were, I bought a few .0047 caps for the treble pickup bleed from MOJO and have been happy with the one I installed in my 12 string. I'll send you some clips if you're interested.

Absolutely, Dan! I'll stick with what I'm using for now - if I hear what I like out of yours, I'll look into some different wiring.

Were you able to get the original pickups for your guitar? If not, what are you using? How about for strings?

I did play your guitar very briefly at MARF, though I didn't plug it in, and I remember liking it. It was only later that I found out the story behind it. I assumed it was all original!

`84 AZ WB, `91 381/12, `91 MG WB, `93 381/6, `97 TURQ WB. I'll check them out to eyeball the difference.
