4001v63 pup cover
Hi, guys.
I'm looking at nice 4001v63 - but the previous owner has removed, and lost, the cover for the horseshoe pickup. How hard would it be to get hold of a replacement horseshoe pickup cover (not the pup itself, the cover only)? Couldn't find it in the RIC boutique.
Thank you for any help.

Hi Ole! It's not very easy to find the horseshoe covers. One set came up for sale here in the past month, but I can't remember the last time I saw a set for sale, and I know there are other people looking for them. Price is hard to judge because they're so hard to find -- what's it worth to you, you know?
That said, missing the covers won't affect the way the bass sounds or plays, so if the price is good, then go for it. If you are concerned about collector's value, make sure the price is a bit lower than a fully stock example, and that the seller realizes how hard these are to track down.

Jake is right. You are looking for the non-magnetic horseshoes for the pickup. They do come up, but not very often and go for a high premium.

The perfect bass!
They make no difference to the sound, being an aesthetic only, and get in the way of the "tone objective"....
You are better off without them, especially with the RI pick up.
Buy it!

when a set DOES come for sale, then you can buy them. Not to mention, when Paul McCartney plays bass on his famous 4001S, he has the shoes off.

I hope you aren't looking at the v63 at Ebay.it. That one has indeed no cover, but also no horseshoe, just a high gain.

Thanks, all.

That appears to be the bass Philip mentioned....

It does look nice!

No this one;

He doesn't want to believe that there is a high gain in there instead of a horseshoe

I think he's had a RIHS in the bass for a while with the shoes on, actually. He had a Higain in the bass for a while after it was worked on by Electro in 1976.JakeK wrote: Not to mention, when Paul McCartney plays bass on his famous 4001S, he has the shoes off.

And now he doesn't play it because it's too heavy.
Somebody needs to tell him that his bass will be lighter and have better string access if he removes and discards the boat anchor.

As good as it sounds with just the Toaster, he should just take the whole rear pu assembly out!

Hey Wints,
Did the RM's have a short or long pole toaster?

I have seen both Kev. Both my 64's (DE/DH) have the longer versions, but there are earlier and later '64's with the short versions.teeder wrote:Hey Wints,

It seems they were installed completely by random.
