+1 Roy. Cool story indeed. Say, did the two horror writers draw on their experiences from being in the band?

and new Vandas website at

Hey thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! Kenobie, here's a recent shot - I still keep it in very good condition. The "rainbow" next to the pickguard was used in PCO to denote whose equipment was whose, and I liked the way it looked so I kept it on. This of course was long before the rainbow was adopted as a symbol of gay pride. Not that there's anything wrong with that ... <G>

John,
I don't think so, they wrote some -really- gory stuff that ended up defining a new form of written horror, called "splatterpunk". The band was pretty interesting progressive music - some people said we should have been called "Crosby Stills, Nash and Yes" because there was a lot of Yes influence.

Thanks for the nice welcome to the forum.

I haven't posted much here at RRF, just occassionally lurking for the past several years, but recently I began reading more and stumbled across this thread, which appealed to me as a long-time bass player. I actually took the time to look at every page of this thread just to see all of your beautiful Ric basses - I suppose that says something about me that I would spend so much time looking at photos of guitars! I know that when a new Ric owner shows up here at the forum s/he usually describes his/her guitars, but I thought I would put a twist on that - I'll post a photo of my Ric bass and let you guys guess the year/model. Sorry, I don't have a pic of me playing it, but you're not missing anything.

I'd guess that it's a 4001, sometime between 1975-82?

Roy's bass appears to be pre May '75 due to the 1/2" pickup spacing.

The bass in question has 1" spacing! It also has the fatter horns so I sez late '70s- early '80s.
