4003 with Grover tuners?

Post by 4003Seagreen »

When did RIC stop using Grover tuners on 4003s? I ask because I used to own a Mapleglo 4003, but sold it ten years ago. This was before I knew about the intricate details of the Rick that this forum (and many others) have provided me. I bought the bass in 1984, I don't remember the serial number, so I'm not sure when it was built.

When I bought my 4003 in 1984, it had Grover tuners. One night, the guitar player & drummer were "horsing around" -knocked my bass over and broke the "D" tuner. I had it replaced with some thing I cannot ID, but it seems to work well. I was going to buy a Grover replacement tuner, but the dealer told me I had to buy an entire set. At that time, I thought it was a "waste of money" to have buy an entire tuning set. Is it possible to buy individual tuner keys anywhere -to anyone's knowledge?

Maybe someone here has a 'net address for Grover?
