Never had an overwhelming itch to buy a new Rick...I'm sure the inlays had something to do with it. The floating inlays didn't do it for me. I bought a few Ricks with dots. But now, dang, I have a whole new wish list.
FWIW, me and my rather wide fingers prefer the thin neck of my '66 360/12 to the 660/12. And I bought the 660/12 (first) just to address the big fingers/small neck issue. You just have to work with it, you'll get used to it!

Re: Current Fingerboard Inlay material?
Dumb question, but why wouldn't epoxy be a better choice than (yuck) polyester for fretboard inlays? Epoxy is pretty stable in terms of shrinkage, easier to mix, less toxic, and the swirly stuff would protect it against UV
while polyester is guaranteed to shrink and yellow, UV or not, and nasty to work with. If mixed with thickening agents it is also hydrophilic, absorbs water if not sealed, whereas epoxy needs no thickening and is impervious to moisture. I propose the clarity and color of epoxy could be indistinguishable from the old poly fills with a little trial and error. Epoxy costs more but c'mon, we're talking a few ounces for inlays.
Just asking because I have preferred epoxy over polyester resins in nearly any application I can think of for its superior stability, strength, life, and handling characteristics. The only advantage polyester has is price.
I think it's time to wake up and smell the Bondo!
