4001CS replacement pickguard -- white or other?

Post by jakeox »

If you were replacing a 4001CS pickguard with a nice back-painted plexi replacement from pickguardian, assuming you can't track down Chris Squire and get him to sign the new pg, do you stick with white, or do you switch it up and go gold or black or something? I'm not sure how they'd look against the (banana) cream finish, but figured it was worth considering. Any thoughts? If it helps, assume that I'd eventually track down a matching trc in whatever non-white color to match.

I'd stick with white and have Tony put your signature on it.

I'd stick with white too. The black would make the bass look like the old Ford Mavericks and Pintos - yellow and black.

Yeah, I'm 98% set on white, just figured I'd consider options while I can.

I'd go with white also. I also wonder what gold would look like. A Ford Maverick?! I don't know about that, but you made me smile, John!

But I wouldn't go with back painted. That's just my preference, but none of the original RM's including Chris's had back-painted plexi pickguards. If you're not gonna have the signature, then why not make it more authentic? You could even put the two holes in it for the tug-bar.

Hm. That's an excellent point. I suppose I could use this opportunity to make it more "authentic".

Then don't forget to round off the upper corner near the E string and toaster.

Jeff took the words right out me mouth!

Jake, if you are thinking about getting a tug bar, think about this: How often do you play with your thumb?

Well you don't have to leave the tug-bar on...It's the two extra holes in the pick guard that make it like Chris's!

Yeah, this got too complicated too quickly

Instead I'm going to spray paint the whole thing black, change out the pups to something that I'll need to route for, which I'll do with a hammer and chisel, and then cover the thing in stickers.
