Brothers and sisters, I'm back!

Post by paul_yan »

Greetings from China!

Image

First, let me say hi to my old forum friends (Peter, Sergio Silva, Joey Vasco, Lindsay Hahn, John Simmons, Bob Young, Andy Winter, Jeff Scott, Andy O'Connor, Chris Pappas, Jared Nakanishi, Jeff Thomas, John Hall, Jon Casselman, Melissa Breitsprecher, Ted Staberow. Please forgive me if I forgot any.) and a belated welcome to new members since 2005.

It feels good to be back in this wonderful family again. It's been over 3 years since I last participated in the forum discussions. Here's what happened: In early Spring of '05, I received a call from a friend in Beijing asking me to mix a pop album he was about to finish. I came and mixed it and reunited with many good old friends of mine with whom friendship was established during '94 and '95 when I produced a few pop albums in Beijing. They persuaded me to continue my music production/engineering/mixing career in Beijing. So my wife and I moved here in the summer of 2005 and I have been busy with work ever since. I've finally been able to catch some breath lately, thanks to the Olympic and Parolympic games during which the music industry takes a break.

Here's a TV footage covering the making of the sophomore album from China's leading art/progressive rock band, "Tang Dynasty", that I finished producing early this year:

In early '07, I mixed the debut album of a young hard rock/pop singer/guitarist. After finishing the mixes, we decided to recruit a guitarist and a drummer and put together a band to perform the songs at live gigs... some of them open air festivals and some club shows. I had great fun doing the gigs. Unfortunately, after a year of playing together, I had to find a substitute bass player and resign from the band this past July because my busy studio work schedule could not accomodate the band's activities. Here's a shot taken in late May at one of the beneficiary gigs supporting the victims of the devastating earthquake.

Any new Rickenbacker acquisitions during my hiatus from the forum? Yes, a 4004 Cii BBR and a 4003 BBR. The Cii is in the hands of Paul Wilczynski waiting for inlay modding and fingerboard varnishing which will be done in March 2009. Here's the 4003 BBR:

I look forward to having a good time discussing everything Rickenbacker here.

And, congratulations Joey! You're really a saint and the best man for moderating the Bass topics!

Great to "see" you again, Paul! It's wonderful that you are so active in music. So you are one of the few to have acquired a BBR 4004Cii. Some of us are still waiting for ours (it will be 1,000 days for me on Sept. 10). What kind of inlay work are you having done on the Cii? Can't wait to see the work.

Welcome "home"!

Paul! Great to hear from you again!

Sounds like you've been a busy man. Great photo's. Would you care to elaborate on the mods that Paul W. is doing to your CII?

Great to have you back.......

Wow, Paul B.

Me and you were on the same wavelength with that last post. We both posted nearly the same post at the same exact time. :D

I like the idea of having the fingerboard sprayed.

HI Paul, welcome back! Sounds like you've been keeping busy in the music biz, which is great.

I would also love to hear what kind of mods you're doing on your BBR Cheyenne. :D

Paul!!! :D

You certainly have been busy. It is great to have you back here. Have you seen the 4003FL that I used to have, which now resides in the capable hands of Alex Heist? Inspired by you, my friend.

Yes, welcome back again Paul. :)

I asked Sergio about you a year ago, and he said you were busy, and I can certainly see how! Funny, I was looking over the old threads last week and came across the C/B Fretless that you have, and wondered again how you were...

Looking forward to your thoughtful posts again!
