Before I set off on my next little jaunt abroad, I'd like to get the basses insured against loss, theft or damage. Anybody here have a good company that they use for that sort of thing ?

I learned of them when I was in a former band of mine. My briefcase with my pedal board, cords, etc. got ripped off in Milwaukee, but the band had coverage for everything. Filled out a police report, told MusicPro what I thought the replacement value was, and they cut me a check minus the $100 deductible. I currently have $23,000 worth of coverage and the premium is $218 annually. Well worth it if you are gigging because homeowners insurance will generally NOT cover ANY of your gear if you make money using ANY of your gear.

I checked into my coverage under my homeowners, and if I use the equipment to make money with, then I need to add a rider, which them covers me in gigging situations.

I just sent in an application to MusicPro for full coverage for my four basses. It came out at $113 for $14500 of coverage. I valued the 4004LK at $7500, but I'll probably have to increase that a little each year. I valued my two 4001's at $2500 and the 4001S at $2000, They are all custom finished to my my specs, so that's what it would cost me to get them replaced as is today. Actually, as someone just paid near $650 for a new RIC horseshoe on eBay yesterday, I might even be lowballing the 4001's.

I carry my gear as a rider on my homeowner's insurance, and also carry a separate policy through Heritage. The Heritage folks are very nice to work with. I'm just a hobbyist, but they also offer performer's/pro policies.

+1 for Heritage, great coverage, reasonable rates, and in the event of a loss pay up without a lot of hassle. Insuring musical instruments is what they do.
