Peter has used this guitar since 1982 and REM's first EP, Chronic Town. 26 YEARS! It must feel like losing a part of your own body.
It was stolen in Finland but I don't know how big the chances are for it to show up in Scandinavia at all.
However, one thing is sure. I will search through all "for sale" venues in Sweden/Scandinavia. It will probably never show up as a classified ad but I will search for some clues anyway.

Nuke the Finns.......! Seriously, I saw a documentary about an art theft that happened ten years ago. A Manet, a Rembrandt, and a Vermeer were stolen. The filmmakers suggested that the works could reside in a private museum consisting of one filthy rich, egomaniacal collector who couldn't even show them to his most trusted friends. SICK!

Such a shame ... I hope that the guitar is safely recovered.

I've been a member of the Rickenbacker forum for about a month or so. In that short time I believe I've mentioned Peter Buck is my favorite guitar player of all time more then once...over Page, Frehley, Ronson, Nugent, Clark, Reed, May, Marr and the best, Mr. Winter. I've also reiterated this sentiment in three other forums. REM music surpassed every other band prior to '82, and still does to this day!
Even though he can easily replace "a guitar," but definitely not replace "that 360 guitar," I would gladly give him one of my 330s. I've seen him play both.
Who knows, maybe Mr. Buck is a member. If so, let me know. I would be honored!

I'd be happy to present him a new 360 with full-width inlays while he waits for his baby to return. This is beyond a shame. Anything stolen is just a horrible thing, I hate when people steal things, I really do. :(

I don't think so (although Mitch Easter posts here)...but member or not, let's hope this forum somehow plays a role in getting his guitar back home to him. There are a lot of Rickenbacker transactions going on in this world, but very few of them seem to elude the attention of one of us.

Game on, forumites.

Do they still stone people ? I suggest such a punishment for said perpetrator. Pete Buck is way too cool to have such a thing happen, and it hurts that such a piece of R.E.M.'s history has been taken from us all ...

One of Paul's Hofners WAS stolen! Out of just the Beatles, Paul's first Hofner, John's first J-160e, George's second 360/12, and George's Les Paul were taken at some point, and only the Les Paul ever turned up. I have my doubts that we'll see this guitar again...still, my condolences to Mr. Buck.

Good to see Bjorn posting here again.

Three back up copies. Who knew? Thanks John.

Don't forget, George Harrison had his 425 stolen, too, but it was recovered in one hour after being stolen.

Pete Townshend had the Rics from the famous "Smashed Rics on the Wall" pic stolen from him. He took them to some guy to get repaired. After the repairs were done, the man stole them. The 360S/12OS and a 1993/12 were sold, according to Paul Griggs, who bought the 1993. Pete also had a Fender Jazzmaster stolen from him, and various Rics in '65-'66, but they did return to him from time to time.

At least one English fan has gone a step further, declaring on an REM message-board that he will pay £500 for any information leading to the missing guitar. "I know it is not much, but all I can afford!" bellowed a 24-year-old user called richardscott1983.You tell em richard!!!!!!!!!!
