Do whatcha wanna do. It's your geetar. Of course, the following question begs to be asked. Your thread starter indicated you just scored the 330/12. Why the quick consideration to convert it into a six-string? Or did you want the flexibility to play a six and a twelve on the one Ric? Best regards.....Goofyfoot.

Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.
Re: 330/12 fitted with 6 strings
Sorry folks and I don't want to sound mean (especially after the "be nice" thread that I contributed to), but this discussion makes about as much sense as putting a 6 cylinder distributer on a Ferrari V-12 in order to get better gas milage.
Re: 330/12 fitted with 6 strings
I agree, what's the point? You want a six, buy a six. Trade the twelve to someone who want's one. Don't know why, but every time I've seen someone play a twelve as a six on stage I wanna leave the room.
Re: 330/12 fitted with 6 strings
The comb converter is collectable because it's rare and it's rare because nobody wanted one. It's a Rube Goldberg device if ever I saw one. Check the Rickenbacker listings of guitar shops that sell to collectors like Rumble Seat in Ithaca, NY. When they get a 12-string with the converter it grows hair waiting to be sold whereas the 330/12's, 360/12's and 370/12's are gobbled up..........
Re: 330/12 fitted with 6 strings
Welcome, Paolo! Your question stimulated a fair amount of discussion. Let us know how you get on.Hi everybody,
i recently got a 330/12, i am wondering if it is possible with no issues at all to play it fitting 6 strings only like a traditional 6 strings guitar.
If not, what are the major issues?
Is the sound going to be exactly as a 330/6 ?
Cheers
Paolo

I don't know, I always thought the comb was silly, didn't work well and was visually distracting.
Re: 330/12 fitted with 6 strings
Why not 4 courses of strings tuned G-D-A-E. It could be the world's longest scale mandolin; a Mando-backer. Or maybe 5 courses and it could be a Rick-o-tiple. How about a 370 with just one pick-up. It could be a Malcolm Young-O-Backer. How far does the insanity go..........
Re: 330/12 fitted with 6 strings
Pardon me..... that should have been a Rick-en-tiple and a Malcolm Young-en-backer. Those "o's" were my Irish heritage coming out.
