It's A Twist
It's A Twist
Billboard have just released, to celebrate, 50 years of Billboard charts, the top 100 singles of all time, they have used some formula to determine the outcome but you probably need a degree in maths to get it.
This apparently is the all time number single of the last 50 years.
Elvis's best effort came in at 81, The Beatles did not make the Top 5, number 8 with Hey Jude was their best

Nope
Re: It's A Twist
I've always thought "Let's twist again" was much better.
Is there any place on the web i can find the full chart? It's interesting to see who made it.

Thank you, Roy.
OMG. "Macarena" at #5 while "Hey Jude" at #8... there must be something wrong with the world. Or with me. Or with both.

Re: It's A Twist
I don't think anyone who's posted before was even alive when this song swept the charts, excepting Roy, of course.
I was 13 or 14, and it caused a HUGE controversy, especially after mostly-black-and-white kinescopes of people doing this dance began making the rounds of news broadcasts.
It was--shocking!!! Sinsational!!! TRIBAL!!! (And, of course, the 2000 pound elephant in everybody's room--race--was the subtext for all the hoopla.)
And it all gave the preachers plenty to rail against and the vinyl manufacturers big orders.
And Chubby, despite his innocuous nickname and white astronaut hairstyle and preppy clothing, went on to money and more fame.
I do agree that "Let's Twist Again" (one year later) was superior musically and truer to black musical roots.

Thanks for telling us about Chubby Checker, Paul. But I knew about him from my parents.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: It's A Twist
Chubby was the first person I ever saw who wore a Madras plaid sport coat. This was about 5 years before they really became fashionable for about 3 months...
Re: It's A Twist
Gawd...... I remember Chubby and The Twist all too well. Guess I've now given away my age...... 247!!
I can't agree with the #1 position but at the time it was huge in Oz and I really loved it! I have to agree that "Let's Twist Again" was much better although oddly enough, less popular here.
Now...... "Let's Limbo Some More".........
