After analysing the scoring system I can come to terms a bit more with the rationale.

The chart is based on last 50 years 1958 -2008
Based on top 100 for every week at number 1 you scored 100 points a week if number 2 99 points and so on down to one point for numer two.

Based on Top 40 alone The twist spent 33 weeks in top 40 with three weeks at number 1.

Compare that to Hey Jude which though it spent 9 weeks at number 1 only stayed in top 40 for 19 weeks.

It follows there fore that The Twist would score heavily based on the longevity in the top 40 alone.

Off for a lie down now.

True, but you've also got to remember that when the Beatles first hit America, the singles came out one after another in rapid succession. They climbed the charts (or sometimes started in the top ten), then were quickly pushed down and off the charts because a new Beatles single was there to take it's place. Just look at ealy March, 1964, where the Beatles held the top five spots!

I don't know - maybe it's just me, but while The Twist was a great song, it shouldn't have gotten that high of a ranking. The subject matter of the song undeniably dates it to the early sixties. Top songs of all time should be more timeless, IMO.
