Great news!

I've also been watching 4003's and it seems that a bunch of 4003JG's went out this week (darn, I'm waiting on a MG).

That's certainly more than they have released at one time in the last couple of years. I swear I checked yesterday and they weren't there! They must have gone out later in the day. Hopefully the L BBRs are coming soon and maybe a few Ciis. (btw, how does an AFG L get shipped before a BBR L? Oh, the uncertainty of production!!)

Whoever gets the MG needs to post pictures!

I just got a nice JG 4004L (1994) last week off ebay. Its in very nice condition apart from a bit of finish cracking
on the neck heel, which I can live with.

I've put a couple of 12k Toasters on it to try out, but I think I'll go back to the HB-1's for a slightly different sound to
my 4003 and 4001.

I thought I'd better bid for it as these things are like hens teeth over here in the U.K.

Good luck finding one anywhere, and I hope you can all get one as they really are superb basses.

There's also a rather nice 4004 Cheynne on there at the moment -http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=007

12hrs to go!!

Congrats on your 4004L, David! What do you think of it so far?
Let us know how you like the toaster pickups in it.

Very nice pattern in the walnut of the 4004C that you posted the link to.

Hi Joey, that 4004C does look rather nice, I hope it goes to a good home. Are you thinking about it?

The 4004L, I LOVE IT!!! The 4004L is really nice to play, its a bit like a cross between my Geddy Jazz bass and my 4003 (2000), not just the neck mind, the body is very comfy when you play sitting down with all the shaped contours around the body. (Where my beer gut is! etc). The neck feels great, even though its a wee bit wider than my 4003's, maybe its slightly thinner back to front, but it does feel very nice.

The toasters sound good on the 4004L, but I'm thinking I need to put the Humbuckers back on it, as I'd like to have
something a bit different sounding from my 4001 and 4003. To me it just sounds too samey, (With the toasters), not like that's a bad thing though,
but it would be nice to have something a bit different to them, i.e a 4001 or 4003 with Humbuckers. Does that make sense?

I might put one of the 12k toasters on the 73' 4001 I've just refinished in a nice sort of Daphne Blue. See the pic below.

I'll see how that goes, I know it'll look really good, but I'll have to wait to see what it sounds like, not bad but maybe not to my taste. I'll have 2 wait and see.

The 1st pic shows a more true to life colour of the bass.

I have a new 4003 on order, so I'll pass on the 4004C. Maybe I'll get one someday.

At first glance of the bottom pic, I thought your Daphne Blue refinished '73 was a Sea Green 4003. It's looks very nice.

I think the pale colour has to do with the unusually bright sunshine we had today, (here in the U.K!!!!) or my camera ain't that good at doing the correct exposure.

The bass does look more blue(y), like in the 1st pic.
