The shape itself is trademarked, so I guess our trademark counsel eats for another week now.

There's no problem to get a proper plate for a given model- just obtain at least half of any plate, from eBay for instance, and turn it in with your order.

While I completely understand the need to protect Ric's interests (and those of us buying off ebay where you can't get as detailed a look at an intrument as you can in person), I do wish there were a more affordable way to get a new TRC, especially in the case where you have bought a new Ric and simply want to change the color. I can see paying more when all you have is half the cover, but if you turn in a mint condition cover, a straight exchange with a modest handling fee (not $45 plus shipping) should not be that big a deal IMO.

I am looking to trade out the TRC on the '76 AzureGlo I just bought, previous owner painted it black. I have checked Mike Parks' site and he has TRC's for $45 plus shipping with an exchange. Is there another way to exchange it for less?

I'd like to exchange my black with gold letters TRC for a black with white letters TRC but at $45.00 and a 6 week wait, I have not done so yet. Why does it take so long and cost so much?

Is it possible to get a vintage black with white letters TRC like on the combo models from the late '50s?

John:

When you post " just obtain at least half of any plate, from eBay for instance," do you mean half of a Ric plate or half of "any" sundry truss cover?

Hi, Gregg. Nice to 'see' you again in the Forum. Well, I'm sure John means a Rick nameplate. It wouldn't make any sense sending in a non-Rick plate.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I would think finding at least 1/2 of a Ric nameplate would be harder to find than a complete one. As you know, I spend a fair amount of time on Ebay and I don't think I've ever seen part of a Ric truss cover for sale.Image

I suppose you could buy a whole one and send in half, but that would still mean there would be twice as many nameplates out there than there originally were if everyone did that.

That's true. Those will probably wind up at $100 plus and then what, another $45 or so for a 4004 TRC. What a deal! I'm going with the fake ones.

For $89? I'd rather send it in with the $45 and make sure I get the right one. Only one of those is for bass.

Ladies & Gentlemen: Mike asks $45 because of several sub-charges he incurrs in the process of the exchange. Mike simply offers this as a service, and is covering his expenses.

If you would like to deal directly with RIC, you could probably save $20 on the whole deal. (I have spoken to Mike about this as well and he approved of my stating this here on the Forum.)

There is a procedure for the exchange, please write me at [email protected] if you have a TRC to exchange.
