Just rekindling an old thread/subject. Here's my 1979 4080 in better quality pictures. As I remember, there are a couple of further 4080 owners in the Forum. Step forward, please.

Sergio, A BEAUTY! Is that AG? HUGE case?
Do you play it, and if so, on what? I'm just wondering how it's used...I'd love to have one myself being both a bassist and guitarist, and am wondering if it sounds as good for bass and guitar as a seperate one would.

Sergio, its beautiful. I've really been looking at these as a serious investment. What with CS signatures going through the roof, how many of these can possibly be available? I know Mike Parks has a couple, but I just dont have the funds right now. I'd really like to know how the bass sounds. I would think what with the extra body mass it would take on an entirely different tone. Deeper, perhaps more punch? I also understand that the 4080 has bolt a bolt on neck design, never seen the back of one. Maybe you can provide a pic of the back?

Yes, it is Azureglo and the HSC is huge and heavy! Yeah, I do play it a lot. I plug it into a Rick TR35B bass amp, which is perfect for the six-string sound too, really.
A horseshoe pickup on my 4080? What for? For the sake of looks or sound?
I don't know how many 4080 and 4080/12 Models were made between 1975 and 1985 (?). My guess is, not that many. Yes, the bass sounds noticeably punchier than a 4001/4003. It has a killer trebly tone, too. Both necks on it are bolted on, or should I say, the 6-string neck is; the bass neck is both bolted on AND set. Even with all four bolts removed it won't come off. I can't provide a shot of the back right now, however I believe you'll find a couple of such shots at Mike Parks' site.
Originally my 4080 had black guards & nameplates, Grover tuners on the bass neck, and the 5th control knob, of course.

Where did you go for new pickguards and TRC's for that beast?

I just bought a '76 AG with black guard and TRC painted black, and would like to make them white again. Any tips?

I ordered the white TRCs ordered directly from RIC (back in 1982 things were easier in that department...), and I made the pickguards from solid white acrylic sheet stock.

You did a nice job with those pickguards by the look of it Sergio.

Good choice with the colour change too....I think white pickguards looks better against Azureglo than black ones.

Jared, me too. I love that horseshoe. I keep following lap and steel rics on ebay hoping to get one with the right horseshoe (if that's possible). Some do mention in their ads that the horseshoe's are 1 and 1/4" wide as opposed to the 1 and 1/2".

I have this dream about putting it on the 4003/8mg I'm waiting for.
