1997 vs 1998 PT

Oh come on, Jake. Just buy it already, when are you ever going to see one for less than $1700 US again? There's no point in the Townshend model unless you're a collector. Who wants that goofy pickguard anyways?

Still trying to buy it, but It's looking bleak at the moment.

Guitar is about $1680 US and shipping to NYC was very reasonable at $96 via Purolator. It's the tax that kills it - I would have no choice but to pay a whopping 12% GST and PST on the guitar, even though it's leaving British Columbia. The shop is not set up as an international dealer - all sales they make are considered "domestic". Therefore, the shop gets taxed the 12% on everything they sell, and of course they need to make that back.

So, what *was* a great deal for those of us in the US, isn't really anymore. It comes out to about $2050 US total, and a 1997 can certainly be had Stateside for that price, without all the hassle involved (the shop couldn't even take credit cards over the phone, or Paypal - they want an international check).

Jake...find a 1997, play the heck out of it, and don't have any regrets. If you held one in your hands, then held a Townshend model, you would hardly notice a difference. Take the $2000+ you'll save and buy a Hiwatt stack!

I second that, it is really about the $2000 pickguard, virtually same guitar! Go buy a JTM45 or Hiwatt with the savings. Too bad you did not know someone in Seattle or even better, Bellingham WA, Vancouver is an hour away.

Ok, so I found the peculiar upper guard that came with my guitar. This was in the case and was not advertised as part of the sale. You could imagine the .02 seconds of joy followed by WTF? Anyways, someone took it upon themselves to make this guitar appear to be more than it is from 10 yards away. Here it is:


Clearly not the real thing, but maybe for a split second. From what I can tell, someone had this die-cut decal made at a shop and put it on a real pg. As you can see, it has kinda melted or deformed a little, it was in my storage shed for a few summers.
