I'll say late '70's. I had one just like it. Its got a one piece guard , not the two piece version that came out in the early '80s, The neck pickup is in the mid-seventies location, the bridge is a modern non-slotted version, has new style knobs, and CHROME hardware. And if the truth would be known, I'd bet it originally had a black guard and black TRC.

Yeah, that's pretty close. It can only be from between very late '75 and very early '77. I think it's a 1976. My February '76 4001 is just like that - tall handrest, parallel running knobs, slightly narrower (!) headstock. As for being originally fitted with a black pickguard & TRC, that's a distinct possibility.
It would be interesting to ascertain the serial number on Will Lee's 4001.
