Re: New yes tour
So then it's not Yes.
I really wish that the band would just wait on Jon until next year.
A new album, and a short last tour.
As much as I want to see Chris on stage again, I just might skip this tour. I can't believe I just said that.
I just don't have a good feeling about this whole situation with the band at this point.
This was supposed to be the 40th anniversary tour and just might have been the last, going out in style as the classic lineup with a Wakeman in the band. I think we were all OK with Rick's decision for not touring, but as long as Oliver was taking his place it seemed natural.
Now, it just dosent sit well with me. That tribute band singer might very well sing Jon's parts exactly perfect for all I know, but I just am not at all excited about the "replacement 40th anniversary tour."
I was willing to wait for next year. This seems hasty and insulting to Jon Anderson.
This band needs to go out on top. Not with a black mark like this so late in their stellar career.
We know that they have taken chances before in their long history, but this is really a bad decision.
Hey, just my opinion.
It dosen't take away any of the joy that I get out of listening to their music. That will never change.

Re: New yes tour
Is it insulting to Jon when Jon has now said that he won't play with Yes live ever again?
Are Chris, Steve and Alan just supposed to wait another 4 years to see if Jon changes his mind? How old will they be then?
I think it might be a bit more honorable to change the name, but at this stage, I doubt they have the energy and ability to build up a new band name.

Re: New yes tour
This circumstance leads to us asking the question "How many members of an original group need to be present to still use the original name?"
At least one, I suppose.
At least one, I suppose.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

In light of Jon's situation, how about calling it "No"?myfretless wrote:I think it might be a bit more honorable to change the name, but at this stage, I doubt they have the energy and ability to build up a new band name.

Actually, all good points, but it has been suggested by some that Jon may be calling it quits. Everyone here knows that I don't like the rumor mills, but in this case, I believe that Steve, Chris and Alan are entitled to practice their trade, and as YES, if they wish. Jon Anderson is 63 with severe asthma. It is not hard to believe that he could be done touring for good. Certainly the other members are closer to this than we are and must have some suspicion. Or, perhaps they just want to tour. It has been a few years and it is how they make their living now that CD sales are so low due to file sharing, etc...
As a fan. it's okay to sit out a tour if you feel that it may somehow diminish their reputation, but please keep an open mind, because it may also open to door for some performances that were otherwise not possible due to Jon and Rick's objections (Relayer, TFTO and Drama, to name three). With Steve, Chris and Alan in charge and two capable performers filling the other shoes, I'm ready to give it a shot.
Re: New yes tour
Oh man, I hate to even think about YES no longer making music.
Even if YES as we know them are done touring, PERHAPS they might still crank out some studio material in the future.....
I would still pay to see Chris, Alan & Steve tour in some form.
Man, it stinks getting old.

Re: New yes tour
I went to see the Rolling Stones at the Pontiac Silverdome back in '89 for what was supposed to be their last tour ever. That was, what, 20 or 30 tours ago?!
Don't count Jon or Yes out yet.

Re: New yes tour
Well, I think calling the band 'No' is a little too negative...how about a less emphatic version of the historical name? I propose: "Yup" or "Yeah"...or maybe "Uh-huh"...
(...as long as no one confuses them with that ridiculous Norwegian band, "Aha"...)
Announcing: Yeah, the "Sure, Whatever" tour!

I didn't get where I am today by being on time...
Re: New yes tour
Or they could have done the Re-Union Tour; without Rick and Jon the stage still would have been crowded.

Re: New yes tour
As much as everyone cringes at the thought of the UNION period, I have one great memory of the show in Orlando. As Jon began telling a story about being in Advision Studios one night in 1972, Alan, Trevor and Tony quietly left the stage. Yes then performed Long Distance Runaround with the classic Fragile lineup. I can't remember if Alan White came back for The Fish (I believe he did) but to see the Fragile lineup performing on stage alone was fantastic!
Re: New yes tour
Okay, then how about "Maybe"? No, on second thought, that would have to be an all girl band.wayang wrote:Well, I think calling the band 'No' is a little too negative...how about a less emphatic version of the historical name? I propose: "Yup" or "Yeah"...or maybe "Uh-huh"...
Also, don't forget Kenny Howes already has The Yeah locked up:

Re: New yes tour
From what I understand, after 2004, Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman sold their interest in the "YES" name back to Chris, Steve and Alan. Therefore, legally, Chris, Steve and Alan are Yes.
Every year since then, Chris, Steve and Alan have asked, or through their agent, asked Jon, to get together for a new album or tour. Even while Steve was doing his Asia thing, he was open to making time for Yes. Each and every time Jon said no, until this year when they were going to do the 40th (really 41st) Anniversary Tour.
Chris, Steve and Alan heard second hand that Jon was hospitalized and that the tour was off. Chris issued a statement that he hoped Jon recuperated and got better and that they would wait from Jon.
However, there were statements from Jon's camp that he was done with Yes, and that he wouldn't be able to tour anymore. At least not with Yes. He would recommence his solo tours.
Unfortunately, it appears that neither Jon nor Chris called each other about this.
So Chris found a replacement singer for the tour. Apparently a very good one.
NOW - Jon issues a statement about how upset and betrayed he feels. Now Jon says he's been thinking of ideas for Yes. Yet he never apparently called Chris, Alan, or Steve. He's saying that Chris should have called him.
Why does this sound like Junior High school?
