The dealer has filed a claim with UPS and I am gonna be contacted by them to arrange an inspection. Thank you to all who posted. The situation is on the way to being resolved.freshmattyp wrote:Did you give the dealer a chance to make it right?

That is deffo not "hidden damage"...that is out of the box, dropped on concrete damage.
I'd find out from Ric how much to fix it and get the dealer to refund that cost of repair.
I'm not a expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Its much more likely that this sort of damage occurred while the guitar was at the dealer. Do you know if the guitar was on display or was it in a factory sealed box?

Re: New jetglo 650c damaged, but how?
Since Dan stated in his opening thread that there didn't appear to be any damage to the box or case, it doesn't sound as if it is the fault of UPS. For a guitar to receive so much damage one would think the shipping box alone would be noticeably crushed on one end. I am assuming the guitar was shipped from the dealer to Dan, but this isn't clear.

I do not know if it was on display. It wasn't a factory sealed box. I will never know what happened but I will believe the dealer as it was iterated that it was damaged in shipping.86kubicki wrote:Its much more likely that this sort of damage occurred while the guitar was at the dealer. I shrunk down the size of the photo and when at actual size it seems feasible to me that this was a shipping issue with the headstock being jammed or rubbed against the inside of the case perhaps on more than one occasion.
The good news is that it is Jetglo and can be repaired to be as good as new.
I hope that the matter is handled straight away and in a straightforward manner.

Is it a 2008 serial number? We just did a bunch of those...
Re: New jetglo 650c damaged, but how?
I was wondering if it could be case damage of some sort, though the scrapes might be too deep for that. I assume the case was checked and there aren't any problems in there. I have two 650s, and, unfortunately, they are a bit loose in the cases lengthwise (one of them was bought brand new and the other was only a few months old when I got it) so it is possible it moved around too much in shipping.(?) If the box doesn't show any damage, I would doubt UPS would accept much of a claim on it, though.admin wrote:I shrunk down the size of the photo and when at actual size it seems feasible to me that this was a shipping issue with the headstock being jammed or rubbed against the inside of the case perhaps on more than one occasion.
The good news is that the 650 is a really nice guitar so I'm sure you'll enjoy it once this all gets taken care of.
Re: New jetglo 650c damaged, but how?
The mechanism by which the damage was done is difficult to assess. If there is even a bit of movement inside the case the headstock in particular is susceptible to damage in my view.
To my way of thinking, a guitar case that sustains a rapid deceleration or acceleration in the same plane as the instrument is resting is certainly vulnerable to a coup or contra coup injury through shearing, tearing or "bruising."
It is time to call in the myth busters.

Man, that is a real bummer, Dan!! I hope it gets sorted out to your satisfaction...... and soon!!
Kinda 'creepy' to think that that sort of damage could be done in the case...... I sure hope not.

I seriously doubt the case could cause that much damage, and since this was not a factory sealed box, I would put the blame squarely on the dealer, not OOPS.

I'm not a big fan of OOPS, but I agree that this kind of damage would not have happened in the case, during shipping unless the case was quite damaged also.jps wrote:I seriously doubt the case could cause that much damage, and since this was not a factory sealed box, I would put the blame squarely on the dealer, not OOPS.
I also have a very hard time believing that this 650C would have left the RIC factory in that condition,
Sorry to hear about this happening with your guitar, Dan.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
