Pickup height

Post by m_cuffa »

When I took off my pickup guard I forgot to take note of the former height of the treble pickup. I set it back to about the same height as the neck pickup and it sounds ok, but I was wondering what you guys thought. How high or low do you set your pickups?

Both my pickups are high-gain.

For me it depends on the relative outputs of the two pickups. I usually also put them at approximately the same height and start from there, I tweak until I get the sound I like. I like them so with just a slight lessening of the bass volume I get more mid. I find the sound is more articulate that way, and it is easier to adjust on the fly in the middle of a song if need be. Usually my treble pickup is closer than the bass pickup.

Measuring from the flat part of the treble pickup, mine is about a quarter inch from the bottom of the E and G strings.
If it ain't broke, break it, then fix it.

Doesn't Rickenbacker have a factory standard that the pickups are set to?
