Gotta give it up to the man - he is the one who sparked my obsession with Rickenbackers eight years and almost 8000 posts ago. :)

He was my favorite member of Metallica.
I wonder where that 4001 is now.

Cliff is the person that made me want to play a Rickenbacker.

Word on the street is that his parents have his 4001.

Y'know, this particular solo reminds me a lot of John Entwistle. Cliff never mentioned him as an influence in any interviews.

I would like to know that, and what year it was..I think maybe the band still have the Aria sb1000 basses..Jason used it(tem) on garage days from 87.

Good thread! When I first started playing bass (which I don't do much anymore), Cliff was one of my favorite players. He always seemed to stand apart from all other bassists in that genre at the time.

I recently saw Cliff's Aria on the bay for $40,000. The one that was on the bus that killed him. It was gone fast. I wonder if Metallica bought it.

I think that auction was total BS. I saw his Aria bass at the RNR Hall of Fame back on August 16th.

Here it is:

I believe he had a few - he struck an endorsement deal with Aria shortly before his death.

I can't stop wondering why he changed from Rickenbacker to Aria ... i simply don't understand it ... but nevertheless, cliff was the best bassist that metallica ever had and will have ... REST IN PEACE, CLIFF !!!
by the way, did you know that he had a third pickup ( a stratocaster guitar pickup) attached in his Rickenbacker 4001 ?

greetings,

anna
(and sorry for my bad English)
