Also billed as topping McCartney, The Stones and Tom Petty. I'm not sure about that.

I'll pass.
Another Led Zep or Cream reunion would have been cool.
Or why not someone like B.B. King? He's showman enough to hold the crowd's attention for the show.

Springstein never did anything for me either. This will be a forgettable half time show as far as I am concerned. How they could even suggest that he could top Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and Tom Pettry is beyond belief and beyond me. In my mind at least, he is most certainly not even close to being in their class.

Wow I can't believe I'm hearing this! I've never been a huge fan but I think he is definitely in, or very close to, that class. At least in the US... I imagine he's less popular around the world than he is here.

I've never been a huge Springsteen fan, but have seen him live and it is admittedly a great showman. IMO The Stones were...not on their game...when they performed at half-time. If that's what people are using as a base for comparison, then I can understand why they think/hope Springsteen will be better. If not, then like JB and JDog, I'm a bit surprised...

I didn't even know Bruce Springsteen played US football, I hope one of the big guys hits him hard.

It's Bruce for crisssakes!
If he plays BITA, and or something like Rosalita, it should get the job done. A showman and performer he most certainly is. Most recent acts have been very ordinary, with the exception of Macca. The Stones were average at best, and Petty was one step above comatose. Thank christ I don't have to sit through that again!
A finale of Born To Run should be enough to hopefully shake away the recent cobwebs, and prove that some old guys can still get it done.

How many icons are left that we should overlook Springsteen? You think maybe Elton John would rock the house better?
You may not like his politics, or his wife, but he's been a classic rocker for decades.
I'll watch this halftime show and eat during the 4th Qtr.
And I agree, finish with "Born To Run." Perfect for the Superbowl.

I'll look forward to seeing him. He's got a lot of great songs, he'a also got a lot of not-so-great songs. We can wait to see what kind of a performance he gives us, then critique it after the fact.
Re: Super Bowl XLIII - Not So Secret Is Out
I've never really gotten into Springsteen, but knowing that Little Steve is a Ric user, and Springsteen himself has a couple Rics, I'm pondering if I should get into him.
But it's cool that he's getting to play at the halftime show, I need to get his "The Essential" album so I can know what he's gonna play!
