Back to black

Post by scotty »

Jeff it is true that a B/W photograph appears to give a sharper feel to the image? or is there mind games going on? Oh and a silly question, does this only apply when shooting with B/W film? Ive changed the photos with Photobucket effects but does it make a difference actually shooting with real B/W film? And BTW i dont use film anymore.i dont suppose many people do these days!

Color usually depends on, guess what(?), ....color to get it's message across. With b&w it is the lack of color that brings out a greater expressiveness to the image, whether done with film or pixels. The contrast between the different shades of grey can effectively enhance the sharpness of a photograph. Look at your b&w conversion, there is not really a lot of snap to the image, but if you increase the contrast a bit, you will see that it looks "crisper" than the original, so to speak. Here is a quick example.

That "Adjusted" photo looks darker and flatter (mostly in the pickguard) in contrast! What adjustments did you do and with what software? The PB controls? I am not familiar with those, I use Photoshop Elements 6, (can't justify CS3), which is quite inexpensive and offers a lot of control.

Practice makes perfect! :D Things translate differently on different computers monitors, also, which is still an issue in this modern age. :!: :x
