drummer Pete Thomas wore a t-shirt that read, “Thanks, Malc”.Aimed at Mr Mclaren and was it cause he screwed up the band previously in some Managerial way?

Close. It was because the Attractions were last minute replacements on the show for the Sex Pistols, who had split up the week before in San Francisco.

I was never into KISS growing up or anything, -before my time really, or the 80s incarnation sans makeup, but I have a lot of respect for Gene Simmons' intelligence and savvy.
