Paul Weller in the Style Council

Post by BCGUY »

I stumbled on this video today. I haven't seen it for years. I had forgotten Paul Weller was even playing a Ric in it.
What model of Ric is this and any guess on possible years?

Thanks Scott. I don't think I've seen that particular footage of Absolute Beginners before either.

Maybe nice to know. maybe it's already known here though...

PW gave his famous black Rickenbacker to his guitarist and OCS-guitarist Steve Cradock. I saw him playing it once with OCS.
Weller gave the white whit pink P one to Noel Gallagher.

I guess the rest still is in possession of Weller.

Thanks Rob, I haven't seen that video before. They didn't play the video's of The Jam or Style Council very much when the songs were released here so I've recently been finding on youtube alot of "new to me" footage or stuff I maybe saw once decades ago.

Cheers,
Shawn

In '83 and '84 The Style council were untouchable, but criminally under-rated by the music press, media and Old Jam fanBoys who couldn't move on. This was Wellers most prolific period of his songwriting career, freed of the shackles of The Jam, the man just wrote great song after great song.
You also just had to buy every available format of each single, it was vinyl 7" and 12" in those days!
The cover art was different on each version, and most of the extra songs on the B-sides were classics, some even better than the A-sides. Also the extended 12" mixes were actually the original unedited versions of the main track, with extra verses and intrumental breaks, there was none of your '4 versions of the same track but with a different dance beat' nonsense going on here.

Happy days indeed.

I agree Rob.

Being a bit of a soul boy myself, I loved their stuff from that period, as Weller finally let his influences into his writing. My mates who were Jam fans just didn't get it.

As far as I know........this is the only other one Weller let go?

Weller has definitely given away 3 of his guitars that I know of.

The all black 330 (From the cover of the DRC box set) was given to Steve Craddock.
The white 330 with the "P" sticker in between the 2 pick ups, was given to Noel Gallagher.
His Paisley (Jap?) Fender telecaster was also given to Noel Gallagher.

BTW, does anyone know how much the "I am nobody" Ric eventually went for at auction?
