I love mine, which I picked up in March after about a two-and-a-half year wait from when it was ordered. They are really gorgeous guitars, chock full of all the Rickenbacker goodies - checkerboard binding, full width inlays, toasters and all that good stuff. Not to mention the German carve, which is extremely cool. I don't really notice the weight of mine too much, but I don't play with it on for hours or anything like that. I have a 12-string AFG on order, which I'm sure will be quite stunning.

Eventually, I might have both of mine refinished in trans red. :D

I have a 12 string in Blueburst, just like Bryant's. People are blow-away by its beauty and sound. I brought to a Guitar Center one day to try out in an amp, and crowd began forming. It's one of those guitars that you want to play for hours, I don't mind the weight at all. The 12 is a bit cramped to play, but in my opinion, it's the most unique, and best sounding rhythm guitar on the planet. I guess a 6 string would easier to play and better for leads, but not as rich and full for rhythm.

My 381/12 BBR is great. The body is a piece of art.

You'll be very happy with the sound.

Best,

Your guitar is a particularly exquisite example of the model. :D

My 381 6-string in Monte Brown, was my first Rick 6 string, purchased around Christmas of 2004. I love it to death. I still remember opening the case for the first time. Unbelievable visuals and smell--Wow!

I brought it to my office when I decided to mod it. I was carrying it down the street in its big, beautiful silver and black vintage case, and was stopped by a female co-worker, who asked me what was in the case. I replied, "the most beautiful guitar in the world!" She insisted I open the case. (Well, it didn't take too much insisting!)

I opened it, there was a sharp intake of breath, and...she agreed, with feeling.

Conclusion; these beauts should come in transparent molded acrylic cases, like Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

Wow, Erik--everything ok at the factory? That's terrible news!

I've got a 99 Fg 6 string and it's a gem. Don't stress about the weight - sure it's heavier than a 330 or 360, but it's really not THAT heavy (way lighter than a Les Paul). the extra wood gives the sound a bit more "meat" in my opinion too.

The only problem with it is that it's such a good looking peice of wood, such a drop dead gorgeous and uniquely cool guitar, that I'm sure I spend far more time looking at it than playing it!

ah, right- somewhere along the line I thought you worked for RIC, so I guess that's a relief, even though it sucks losing your job man! I guess it's not a good time to be in the banking industry, for sure.

(ps...sorry, no more tangent- back to 381's! )
