Looks great!

I have a 4003S/8 and the strings were hitting the cover - probably was put on incorrectly, but the cover interferes with my playing style, so I took it off.

I also have a 4008 with a cover (and this is the real reason I'm writing) - the cover sits REALLY HIGH, I thought maybe this one was incorrectly mounted, but maybe this is normal? I'm planning on taking this one off too the next time I change strings.

Sorry for the incoherent post, hopefully you know what I mean. Basically, I didn't realize that there were different height covers.

Harry,

It sounds like you have a "high rise" cover. This cover should sit under the springs atop two plastic grommets which sperate it from the pickup mounting plate. If it is fitted between the springs and the treble surround (which is how the older low-rise covers were mounted), it will sit very high and proud.

The "low cover" problem you had with your other bass cold have been due to either the pickup being adjusted to be a little too low (cured by raising the pickup) or the cover being fitted without the grommets.

I'm in awe of the fact that you have a 4008 and a 4003s/8 - two of my dream basses.....
