Can I make a Rick-O-Sound box?

Post by octagon »

Since Rickenbacker stopped making them it seems like used ones have doubled or tripled in price. Is it possible to buy or make something equivelent?

Hi Mitch,

You don't really need a Rick-O-Sound "box" to separate your neck and bridge pickups on your Rick-O-Sound Rickenbacker guitar.

All you need is a 6" HOSA, shielded "Y"-cable. Make sure you get HOSA model # YPP117. This cable is probably available at Musicians' Friend on the internet for the incredibly low price of six or seven dollars!!

Simply plug the phono-jack end of the Y-cable into the ROS jack of your guitar. Then you can plug in two guitar cords into the the two female ends of the Y-cable and run the 2 cords into two separate amps. Use the fifth knob on your guitar to balance out the sound of your neck and bridge pickups....You'll get a nice spacious sound from the two amps.

all the best...Ron

The Y cable works. You can also make your own Rick-O-Sound box pretty easily.

Butch Ammons at Bayou Audio Cables sells a stereo splitter box: http://www.bayoucables.com/bayouosound-box-p-222.html

Wow, Kira, that's pretty darn good; the Bayou Cables box is already $20 by itself; add cables and it's more than your Y cord!

That's how I figured it, and it's all unified and shrinkwrapped nicely, probably quieter than three cables and a box. It's the Bananas Music, their house brand, usually on sale and good quality.
