What is the definition of "Collected" as it pertains to the Register?

Dan, it means the model, finish along with the SN was collected by other means, but not by ownership, as I understand it.

I see. I was interpreting the meaning as "To accumulate as a hobby or for study"

It's used when a Rickenbacker is found (usually for sale) on a website. The information is collected and put into the database.

I am wondering why then, people would put a collected Rickenbacker into the database unless it is for sheer numbers.

Possibly to show that the serial number in question still exists on an instrument...

Also to help everyone gain a better understanding of the distribution of models, clors and variations through a larger sampling size.

Paul and Chris, Yes, both of those reasons make sense.

I just bought a guitar that is listed as collected (looks like another guitar to send out to Paul). How do I register it to my name? Or is that not necessary? I did like using the database to keep a list of my own serial numbers.

PM (or e-mail) either Peter or Gil (both administrators of the site), giving them the serial number of the collected instrument and telling them that you now own it. They will remove the 'collected' notation and it'll be registered (or 'registerable') in your name.

I was going through old pictures last night and I ran across one that provides another reason to have the 'collected' category: I have the pictures from an eBay ad that was for the parts and COA from a destroyed 660/12TP. I will be adding the serial number to the register so that someone will know that a 660 with that serial number is not original.

Also, with the number of Rics in the registry with pictures now, it is a great resource to compare an instrument you are considering buying. I finally put all my guitars in the registry, and pics will come slowly.

Living vicariously...yes, pictures...excellent...If you can't have it, it is nice to be able to at least look at it.

Seriously though, some of the pics in the register are beautiful. Manta’s Guam Guitars comes to mind. Great inspirational computer wallpaper stuff! Super reference material too.

I would like to make a modest proposal. Those of us (and I am one) who add "collected items" to the Register should make an effort to post at least one photo of the collected item when photos are available.

There is a knockout 360-12 FG up on ebay now, serial # TA181. It was recently entered as a new record on the Register, but none of the seller's excellent photos were added to the record for that item on the Register. Only the "collector" of that item has the ability to add those photos to the Register.

I think we are missing an opportunity to improve the Register as a resource if we don't make an effort to add at least one photo of the item when we enter it as a collected item, especially when the photos are already posted to the auction site and it takes only a few minutes to download them -- or it -- and upload to the Register. When the ebay (or other) auction is over, those photos will eventually be erased and no longer available.

There, I said it. No offense meant to non-photo "collectors," but I trust that you get the idea.

I've actually done that - added pictures to something someone else collected. Just send a note to Gil and he can fix it so you can add the pictures.

I agree, putting pictures in when possible is a great idea and I always try to do that.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

I have many images of guitars that are already in the registry too... Simple solution is just to email the images to Gil and he will add them for you.

I have images of DK 695 the second 625 12 string prototype... I have been meaning to add them to the registry for ages now...
