The name is impossible to translate. Maybe something to do with tea, maybe not, i don't know for sure. A "folk-rock" band from Sverdlovsk/Ekaterinburg, formed 1984, still active, main forces behind the band are Vladimir Shahrin (lead vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Vladimir Begunov (lead guitar, vocals).
Hope they'll draw your attention (refers to Peter McCormack as well ) — they're funny in a way, they're real, and there's always a feeling of hope about their songs even if they sound sad.
Рок-н-ролл этой ночи — This night's rock'n'roll (Shahrin)
Lately i've met my school friends,
We haven't seen each other for a good dozen of years.
I was very glad, i've invited them at my home,
I've arranged a small banquet.
We were sitting up late but the talk wasn't okay,
Then i took my guitar and sang my rock'n'roll.
Refrain: This night's rock'n'roll, uh-uh-uh (twice)
I thought it would be good, but it turned out so-so.
I've met her at the entrance to night.
I'm still surprised i've recognized her.
She said she needed help
I couldn't help her cause i didn't know then
That she's not allright, somebody left her,
And i offered her to dance rock'n'roll.
Refrain.
Last week i've been to a concert,
For some it's a joy, for them it's nothing.
One of them said he loved Kino [Soviet rock group — SC]
But i've understood he loved Zoopark [yet another Soviet rock group — SC].
But at night, for some reason, i couldn't find my sleep,
Their rock'n'roll didn't let me fall unconscious.
Refrain.
Yesterday, i've got stuck in an elevator for the first time.
A great possibility to talk to myself.
The lights turned off and i found myself in thick darkness,
Lemme potter about my soul for an hour or two.
But the night's almost over and the elevator doesn't work yet,
So i am singing my rock'n'roll sitting on the floor.
Refrain.
Не со мной — Not with me (Shahrin)
Collecting stamps
From someone else's envelopes,
Let the thoughts
Fly on the wind so easily.
Time flies away
Harder and longer,
I'll never meet you,
Never see you anymore.
Refrain: Not with me, you're not with me, you're not with me, you're not with me.
Cannot get used to
Stupidity and falsehood.
You were so close,
You're getting further and further.
Yesterday, you've been at
Agatha Christie ['s concert — a name of another band from Ekaterinburg — SC]
I was kicking
Golden leaves in the park.
Refrain.
I was pouring
Kinzmaraouli [wine] in glasses,
And alien hands
Were slicing Soulouguni [cheese].
She was singing songs,
Bad ones and falsely,
It was bummin' in my head:
"Life stinks without you".
Refrain.
Не спеши — Don't be in a hurry (Shahrin)
Don't be in a hurry burying us,
We have lots to do here yet,
We have small kids at home
And we'd simply want to live.
Don't be in a hurry shooting in our backs,
It's never too late,
You'd better let us finish our dance,
You'd better let us finish our song.
Don't be in a hurry closing our eyes,
We all love darkness anyway,
And the vine is slashing our cheeks,
Getting high on nudity.
Don't be in a hurry not loving us,
Don't be counting victories by day,
If we cannot live with you together,
Who'd fall in love with you tomorrow?
Don't be in a hurry burying us,
We have lots to do here yet,
We have small kids at home
And we'd simply want to live.
