A Beatles Tribute Band

Post by tallpat1 »

I was lead vocalist in a Beatles tribute band back in the mid 90's during the Beatles being re-discovered to a new generation with the release of 2 new songs and the Anthology.

Pretty good! Honestly it's not on a par with the top Beatle-bands, but having tried some of those songs with my old band I know how EASY it is to sound gawd-awful. Sounds like it would be fun to see them (you) over a few beers.

Not bad at all. Doing a Beatles tribute is a hard thing to do IMHO, because their sound is so distinct, and most people are so familiar with it. The stage looks like a place here in Hickory NC called the White Pine Supper Club. I've played many a gig there. BTW, the local PBS station out of Charlotte the other night, ran a performance of "Rain". They were extremely good as the Beatles, as are "1964 as the Beatles". The best I have seen though, was a performance of Beatlemania in Charlotte as a teenager. They put on a fantastic show. I have to give "Rain" credit. It sounded like they paid a great deal of attention to details in terms of the music.

I've written about "1964 as the Beatles" before. I saw them a few times around the Boston-Portsmouth-Concord NH area in 86-88. They were FANTASTIC. Now known as "1964: The Tribute" (because of pressure by Apple to cease and desist using the name), they are STILL great although showing their age a bit. A peek at their web site shows them to be very busy indeed.

Very well done, Patrick.

I also saw the Rain PBS special, and, IMO, they are not quite as good as The Fab Four, whom I have heard perform twice.

I LOVE 1964, don't love the guy who plays "Paul." I know he learned to play bass lefty, yada yada, but he just can't cut it on vocals anymore IMO. "John" is the real standout.

Patrick, it's good to see you have all the equipment for the job! Is that a 325c64 you're playing?

Richard, I saw them first at the Orange County Fair in 2004:
Fab Four, OC Fair 2004
Fab Four, OC Fair 2004
I saw them the second time a year later (2005) at The Hop in City of Industry. Two very different venues, excellent both times.

I saw another Beatles tribute band, Backbeat, last weekend at the Tiller Days celebration here in Tustin, and they were pretty good.

Where are they playing Richard? I don't see a gig for Oct. 25th on their web site.
