Quite a feat to go to that length to replicate the LK...

You gotta love that TRC!

I downloaded the photos for reference, expecting the listing to disappear any moment. Man, they couldn't even spell "Rickenbastard" right? It says "Rickenbasted" -- isn't that something you do to a turkey?

"Only a two pieces made, . Made in Europe
With gigbag
The guitar hand made high quality
This is a killer guitar
Original price: 7.000.00-12.000"
Soon to be removed by RIC legal, so I'll post pics of the offender:

Do you think it's actually a modded 4003 rather than a full on faker ? I don't know the 4004 series well enough to tell, but if they went to that trouble, I'd have stained the back to match the front and put checkerboard binding and gold hardware on it.

You mean that the nautical rope trim doesn't tickle your cuckoo, Gareth?

I'm not quite sure what it does to my cuckoo.

No good can come of this I'm sure. It wouldn't look out of place stuck on the wall of your local crab shack. If it's one of only two, where's the other one of these things, and does it come with a certificate of authenticity ?

That is one KA-Razy instrooment!

I can't tell if it is a converted 4003 or a custom-made faker. I think the seller is implying that it is a custom thing, made in Europe, and that only two were made. If it is a Rick, I'd say it is an '83ish to '96 based on the size of the horns and the headstock shape. If it is custom, I'd say the builder had an '83ish to '96 4003 in his shop as a model.

Why he went to all the trouble to duplicate the bass so thoroughly but didn't go for the checker binding or gold trim is a mystery.

If it is a real Rick 4003, then I think his only infringement is the fake TRC.

And how about it PB...Rickenbaster? Maybe he used a turkey baster to coat the bass in something. But what?

I saw something similar at an outdoor stand in Tijuana.

Oh, wait, I think it was a "Last Supper" theme, not cockynuts like this one.

But it was similarly and suspiciously shiny and brown...
