I simply can't understand why anyone wants an autograph from anyone "big", unless you want to sell the thing to pay for college. It's a piece of paper. I might understand if you got the autograph in person -- actually met the "biggie" -- but if you mailed in a request and it came back in the mail, what's the big deal? I've met my share of rock stars and I never once asked for a picture or an autograph. The way I figure, they write music and perform for a living, and I pay to see them or buy their product. They don't "owe" me anything beyond putting out a decent product. And even at that, I expect them to whiff every once in a while. I guess I don't have the collector's mentality.

All kinds of people write in for stars' autographs, children, maybe sick or invalid people, true fans of every ilk who may not have any inkling of the business end of the music. They're in it for the magic. They won't understand why Ringo is so grumpy; they just want him to be their hero.

Nah, he just reached out the window! I saw the vid! It was at the Quebec concert (Which I never fail to bring up in conversation... as I was there!)
Damn you!

I missed the concert by a week. However, I absolutely loved Quebec City. A great place fo a concert.

Exactly, Kris! They wanted it in the first place. Worked on the Ringo TV Special when I was still working at CBS in the 70s and he had major altitude back then when he was living in Beverly Hills. Not a warm and fuzzy guy - at all.

I think that the manner in which this announcement was made was abrupt and somewhat offensive. However, I agree with Ringo 100%. Can you imagine being called on (a hundred times daily!) to provide complete strangers with autographed items, etc., the majority of which would be sold on ebay ?
This is an absolute violation of Mr. Starkey's privacy - not to mention his personal safety (remember Mark Chapman?). To think that he has not given his 1000% in this regard is absurd. I agree whole-heartedly wiith his decision - even if I do not endorse the way in which it was presented...

I'd put him in the major a**hole cat these days. So would most of Liverpool it seems...

It's the fans that put him where he is, and really, shouldn't a polite request be honoured? Remember when the fans ran over John's Rolls Royce and someone said why aren't you mad. "They paid for it" was the great reply ......

Ringo needs to get a life. He's become an ungrateful.....

10 hours drive, 4 hours sleep, 17 hours standing with no food/water/bathroom and one great story... Worth it!

He sounded as if he was a little "under the weather" if you know what I mean.

Peace and Love :D

I defy anyone who has had as much attention as any of the Beatles to remain "warm & fuzzy" 24 hours a day, every day. Heck, even us normal dudes can't manage that.

Well, Ringo may or may not be 'warm', but he's always appeared to be 'fuzzy' to me...
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...
