First Rickenbacker........620-12 LOVE IT!!!

Post by thaus »

Just wanted to share a pic of my very first Rickenbacker - bought used but not abused! Plays great even though I think I need new strings since these ones feel very loosy goosy and are difficult to keep in tune. But the sound and feel of a Rickenbacker is unique..........my other expensive hobby is photography; this picture taken with a trusty Canon 1D and Canon 17-40mm lens. Studio lighting and some photoshopping.........

Nice work, Michael, and the guitar is a stunner. Beautiful fireglo.

And welcome to the forum. You've introduced yourself in a very nice way and I hope you stick around. Any more pictures?

Welcome, Michael! :D Great photography. I am glad to see someone here with PS skills as that is something I am a rank amateur at. I have always been primarily into b&w large format photography with my Ebony 45SU and several Schneider and Rodenstock lenses. But I do have a 30D with the 17-40/4. 24-105/4 and 70-200/4 IS lenses, all fantastic glass.

Nice shot Michael, and welcome!. Say, you should check out the calendar thread and submit that photo to Jingle Jangle for the 2009 calendar!

Sublime.

You should call National Geo. Gorgeous 620/20, too. Props to you. Best regards.....Goofyfoot.
Play on, pick often, jam with any Rickenbacker, and prosper.

Michael, you say the strings don't seem right? What kind and gauge of strings are you putting on her?

Welcome to the forum, Michael

Your "new" used guitar is really a beaut. As far as the strings go, you might try stringing it with Rickenbacker strings. I've always had good luck with them.

Thanks for the kind welcome and compliments on the guitar!! As far as the strings go, the just feel sloppy so it may the age (they are the ones that came with the guitar). Any recommendations as to the best gauge for this guitar? I think I will stick with Rickenbacker strings........

Good choice, although there are several brands that folks like to use on ricks, Thomastik- Infeld, Pyramid are good premium quality strings, D'Addario Chromes are a more affordable crowd pleaser, there are some other common recommendations if you search the past topics. There's the choice of roundwound or flatwound to be made, which depends on your musical and playing style. Try 'em both if you're not sure, rounds give a harder tone in general and are preferred by the hard rock crowd. Flats are considered "jazzier" or softer, but this isn't always the case. As for gauge, more string means more tone so play the fattest strings that are comfortable for you. Start with .11 for the high E on a full scale guitar, .12 for a short scale, would be my advice. Move up in gauge when you feel strong and brave.
