SVT3 Mins LED

Post by seyesbass »

Hi,
Has anyone had to repair the mains LED on an Ampeg SVT3 ?

I had alook at the board and its a right awkward little devil to get at.
The amp works fine and I cant tell just yet if its a dead LED or a bad solder joint.

Just wondered if anyone has had a repair on one of these and if so I would need to get a replacement LED from Ampeg but they point you in the direction of the dealers etc.

Pete, though it is possible for an LED to burn out, it is extremely rare. I would look for a bad solder connection. Check the voltage across just the LED - it should be around 1.5V.

While it's always possible for a bad solder joint, it wouldn't surprise me if the LED had burnt out. I work in the Electronics industry, and see LEDs burn out on a regular basis. As more and more components are being manufactured in third world countries, quality has taken a nose dive. Far too many parts either don't work to begin with, or else fail prematurely.

So much for the reliability of parts we expect to last!

The company I work for manufactures high end graphics cards for computer systems. We get screened memory (supposedly) from suppliers, yet the first time test yields are down around 60% - All memory failures.
