Blues Trivia

Post by winston »

We had a lot of fun with a similar trivia quiz in the Rock' N Roll section so I thought it would be fun to start one here.

Here is the only rule that needs to be addressed: The use of Google is OK. If you don't know the answer look it up. Everyone who is not that familiar with the subject and who reads the question is likely to benefit from the answer.

Here's your first trivia question in It's The Blues Baby.

Which famous blues artist was discovered in prison?

Well done Kira.

Here's the next one:

Which famous blues artist was said to have sold his soul to the devil and where did he supposedly do it?

I believe it was Robert Johnson, who sold his soul at the Crossroads!

Ok the next one is a wee bit harder:

Cool. I am glad someone got that one. Well done Jim.

Blind Willie McTell could not only judge the distance of things in this way, but also tell how much a coin was worth by hearing it dropped into a can, and he could tell how much paper currency was by the texture!

Here''s the next one:

How many tracks did Robert Johnson record and how long did it take him to record them in terms of total number of days?

Close! But not quite there. :D

Btw how did Robert Johnson record his songs? What recording trick was used to enhance his sound?

There are 29 masters plus 12 surviving alternate takes, making 41 total. These were recorded in 2 sessions, the first one lasted three days Nov. 23, 26, and 27, 1936. The second session lasted two days, June 19, and 20, 1937. Five days total.
