The whole southern California music scene knew each other.Clarence White played sessions with Linda, perhaps live too,and of course started playing sessions with the Byrds on 'Younger Than Yesterday'.
I don't know who thought of this stable/barn first ,but it was a know place and it sure got used for more than LP covers

Ralphs was a chain of grocery stores in California.Frank Zappa immortalized them in his early 1970's release-'Just another Band from L.A.

When I was just out of high school and my friends and I would drive into LA to the Troubador ,the Roxy ,the Hollywood Bowl or any other of the many venues ...to see the rock acts of the day ...we would go early and checkout the sights.

This 'barn' was one of the places we looked for .

When I was 25 ...and on the road with Dave Mason ...I begged the rest of the road crew to go to Mamassas ,train station and have our photo taken ala Stills and gang.It did not happen .
But some where there is a shot of David Beaver,Alan Dunn ,myself and Al's brother as the horse and he was turned around and "shining the moon".
and this was at 'the barn'.
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!

In late '70 or so, I was visiting the Rick showroom and discussing Byrds with a fellow who worked in back at the sales office. Somehow, he ended up giving me Rogers address.2 years later, in '72, Arnquist and I drove to Sherman Oaks and found the house, alright, but a neighbor said McGuinn had moved out nearly a year before. But we Did see it.Sort of a ranch style house, not
palatial by any means.Nice neighborhood with confusing streets you could get lost easily in.
No funny cigarettes on this trip.I got that in '74 when I met Roger the 1st time.oh, Boy!!!
I will say no more...

"Don,
That "stone cabin" was in Topanga Canyon--L.A.
we actually rode those horses up there for the photo shoot. I think the photographer
packed his gear on a horse too.
I have no idea what Bass that was or what film clip??? I might have been borrowing
the instrument for that filming, but I seriously doubt it.. I always had "my ax" with me..
I used a P-Bass and in the early days a Guild hollow body double cut-away".This post here I got
from Chris a few days back after I emailed him
about the Notorious cover, as well as a ? on a Byrds video of 8 MH where he has a different necked Pbass.
